2021 Training – March Wrap Up

March brought warm weather finally and a lot of rain but it was a nice change of pace from Februarys heavy snow. I was able to hit most of my mileage goals while also improving the quality of my runs and adding more elevation gain. I would of liked to keep my totals about 40 miles a week but my tendons have been pretty unhappy with the beating they are taking. Ultimately, I decided it was more important that I stay healthy for the Hyner Trail Challenge in a few weeks.

I will be doing a more comprehensive post leading up to the Hyner Trail Challenge 50k.

Second Half of March 2021 Highlights:

Week 3 – 34.50 Miles/ 3,343 ft Elevation

Week 4 – 32.83 Miles/ 2,142 ft Elevation

Races so far…

I didn’t run any races in the second half of March.

Races on the Horizon…

Below is my current race schedule for the rest of 2021…..

  • Hyner Trail Challenge (50k) – April 24 (Confirmed!)
  • Cranford Pizza Run 5k – May 16 (Confirmed)
  • OSS/CIA 50 Miler (Night time race) – June 12 (Confirmed)
  • Mt Tammany 10 (40 Miler) – March 20 (Waitlist) Rescheduled to October 30, Registration hasn’t opened yet but I assume I would still be on the waitlist.
  • Rim to River 100 Miler – November 6 (Waitlist)

I am still open to finding another race for the end of September/ early October. If you have any suggestions let me know! I also plan to fill in some of the gaps with shorter races along the way. The 100 miler is remains an ambitious year end goal but we will see how things go as we get closer, November is a long ways off.

In general my main goals at this point are to keep increasing my weekly mileage and doing more targeted strength/speed training. I also need to keep increasing my weekly elevation totals.
