How did it get so late so soon? – August 2025
“How did it get so late so soon?”
― Dr. Seuss
It occurred to me, when the hosting of my website expired and I was rushing to fix it (oops), that I haven’t written here in quite some time. I can’t believe it’s been over 10 years since I first launched this website. Since then tens of thousands of people have visited. A fact I struggle to process. Although the specific reasons I started this blog came and went with time, I stayed for my love of this community.
The reasons I keep this blog alive continue to change also. Partly it is a living memory of the places I’ve been and things I’ve done. As I grow older (I’m not old yet!) I truly realize how special these times were. I hold them close to my heart and it’s fun to come and visit them sometimes like an old friend. The amount of visitors who still visit regularly to check out my Adirondack High Peaks guide is staggering and I want to continue to support them. I want to continue to add value to a community I love and has given me so much over the years. I am immensely thankful for everyone who has visited the site, or sent me a kind word along the way.
I didn’t realize it at the beginning, but this blog also reignited my passion for writing. Although much of the prose here could stand to be heavily edited (I was not very good about doing this back when I started. More hiking time > editing), I enjoyed pretending I was Jon Krakauer for a few minutes and the practice ultimately led me to where I am today.
Through these outdoor adventures and long hours alone, I created an entire new world. Which I eventually turned into a science fiction book series. It has been the greatest and most enjoyable creative project of my life. I shamelessly ask you to check it out here, and if you enjoy reading it, please consider leaving a rating and/or review on amazon/goodreads. The support goes a long way to helping small authors like myself.

I do have ambitions one day to update many of the post and trip reports found on this blog for future ADK hikers. Although I can’t say exactly when this will happen. It might come in spurts and drips over the years. Meanwhile, I will continue to try and fix the more egregious errors like broken links, very outdated info or major typos. If you find any of these, please feel free to shoot me an email.
